God’s Word (Part 3)

It Is Profitable

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

The Bible is profitable!  That does not mean that it is something that we can use for the purpose of making money, but it gives value to our lives.  Notice the four ways that we can profit from God’s Word.

First is doctrine.  The Bible is where our doctrines or teachings come from.  Everything we know about God, man, and God’s plan for man is found in the Bible.  Next is reproof.  It may seem odd to some that reproof would be profitable, but reproof is a good and necessary thing for our lives.  Reproof is beneficial because it shows us where we fall short of God’s glory, fail, and are wrong.  Third, we find that the Word of God corrects.  Simply put, when we fall short, Scripture shows us the necessary corrections.  Finally, the Bible is profitable for instruction in righteousness.  The Bible teaches us how we can maintain a right relationship with God.  If we were to give a simple explanation of how we profit from God’s Word, we could say: The Bible teaches us everything about God and life.  It shows us how and where we fail, how to get right, and how to stay right.  Perhaps today could be the day that you would commit to allowing the Bible to be profitable for your life.
