Knowing True Happiness

Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, not standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

“True happiness is not determined by happenings; it comes from the LORD.”

Everyone wants to be happy. But true happiness can only be found in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us in this Psalm what we should do away with, and what we should do, to know true happiness. Notice the three actions we should avoid to know true happiness; and the one thing that will bring us true happiness:

First, we need to be careful of our actions. We will always walk in the way that we are advised. Therefore, the best way to live a godly life is to be led by Biblical counsel. Living a life, led by wicked or sinful counsel, will lend you to a life of defeat.

Secondly, in order to know true happiness, you must separate yourself from sinful behavior and sinful crowds. The saying goes, “if you play with fire, you’ll get burned.” Well, if you stand with a sinful crowd, you’ll end up participating in the sinful behavior.

The third thing we must put away is any identity of wickedness. You cannot sit in a mud puddle and expect to come out clean. Why would you think you could sit in wickedness and come out righteous?

One way to think about this is: Your walk is what you do; you stand with what you agree with; and you sit with what you identify with. If you want to know true happiness, you cannot: Walk with the ungodly, Stand with sinners, or Sit/Identify with wickedness.

Now, let’s look at what we can do, as believers, that will allow us to know true happiness:

Find our delight and nourishment in God’s Word!

Simply, if we are going to know true happiness, it will only come when all we need is the LORD! When we can honestly say that if everything around us were to be taken away, we are satisfied with Christ.

So, start today, satisfying yourself with God’s Word. Read it. Know it. Obey it! Then you will know True Happiness.
